I've never had a problem with a Ficus getting too much sun.
As for the possibility of it getting too much water that is only a question you could answer. Is it a good draining soil? Is it soaking wet? Is it wet when you water...etc.
Other than that what is the purpose of that piece of wire on the trunk? The way it is stretched and drawn out it certainly can't have any effect on the trunk or even a branch for that matter unless its an anchor wire leading to a branch that I can't see.

P.S. Could we possibly down size the pictures a tad!

i'm using that to anchor guy wires. i wrapped it loosely so it wouldn't damage the bark, but it's firm enough that the guy wires won't give.
the soil is mostly inorganic and it drains superbly, i'm thinkin that i'm not watering enough actually. i'm going to change it's water sched and mist it twice a day and see if that helps.
thanx for the input.

It looks exactly like what happened to my Ficus when I put it into its new pot with Pure Kyodama, I hadn't adjusted my watering schedule properly to suit its new soil so it dried out and threw off 90% of its leaves. I put a carrier bag over it on a gravel tray with water and 2 weeks later it threw out new leaves.

Hope this helps.

Simply use the ATTACHMENT feature. A lot easier. If its still too large and will not be accepted this is a free download and I use it quite often for resizing pictures. www.irfanview.com

P.S. I took care of it for you.

thanx a lot phil, i'll take note of that.
matt, i think you're right... my other ficus are in more of an organic mix, and i don't water them as often. i'm going to try more frequent watering as well as misting to see if it bounces back. luckily i have only lost a handful of leaves.

I've sunburnt ficus before after moving them too suddenly from a shadier area to a place getting direct sun. The leaves went more light yellow, brown, and spotted when this happens. Your photo looks more like what happens when they are moved, repotted, or overwatered.
