And if a bougainvillea won't make you smile something is terribly wrong.
Is that first one a pink pixie? DR

I bought Mom a Pixie years ago that I took several cuttings from. I've been working them ever since. It's hard to get bogies to girth up in general, but man, I'm having a tough time with these pixies. On the flip side, you gotta' love that tight, compact foliage!

Girth
Quote:
I don't have hardly any exp. with the Pixies, but as you say other Bogies are slow to gain girth. Somewhere on line I saw a picture of a bogie that was a true tree must have had a two foot trunk. I bought this one at a show last spring and took some starts from it. So far I find them E Z to start I have had 100% success, (dumb luck) .Good growing Paul |

Nice work Paul,
I cant grow them where I live - too cold. I guess I could have a crack at it, I grow ficus here combining inside for winter and outside for the warmer months. Are they easy to grow? Cheers, Leigh. |

Bogie's Down Under
Quote:
Yes, it would be harder to grow them in your area, though certainly not impossible, they are similar to Ficus in there temp. range in my experience. Being down near the bottom of Australia, I would imagine your weather is similar to North Carolina or Kentucky, here in the U.S. So you most likely would need to keep them in a greenhouse for the winter months. They are very easy to grow here in central Florida, You can easily start them from cuttings, the last one pictured is about 1.5” (31mm) in diameter and it was started from a cutting last year, I just cut it off , sprinkled some rooting powder on it and put in a pot with my standard Bonsai soil. So as you can see they are easy to start. I would say they are a lot like Ficus Benjamina in that respect. One caution that must be observed is to be very careful with the roots when repotting, as they will break off easily when lifted from the pot, if too much weight (soil, water) comes with them. Give them a shot they’ll winter with your Ficus. Good growing Paul |
