Treebeard, seems thanks are in order all around. Again, thanks for the tip about serissas not minding cooler weather. You saved me a lot of steps to the greenhouse by not carrying them in (yet again) just the other night. No ill effects were observed in what is fast becoming: as usual.

I seem to recall going to the aroboretum near Cork sadly, I must have missed the mokey. As far as I know anyway. Seems to me the black and tans (Guinness and Harp) were flowing fairly profusely around that time.

Cheers,

Arty

(Pic on right, I left one leaf for you Centaura. hehe)

Thanks for the shots, and for leaving a leaf for me! That, and I think there was a key wording in one of your earlier posts - "angry pinching". While I don't have the FL environment (if I could take the heat, I'd be jealous), I'll try that this summer when I put them out. I think that's the other thing that I did 'wrong', I trimmed and then let them grow unimpeded - which just got me long gangly shoots with long internodes. Sounds like I need to be after them as soon as they're sprouting. Thanks again for the advice and the pics.

Centaura,

You're most welcome. I promise to keep them updated until I leave in May anyway. It seems after 30+ years in the nursery business, I can no longer take the heat either.

Sheesh!

Be glad you are down there right now, up here it is freezing and they are suggesting tomorrow will be snowy followed by some freezing rain...

Hi Centaura,

How about one more suggestion for thought? When you put it out this year you could pot it up into a planter and just let it grow.

By the way, what have you been feeding it?

JLDoggett,

Yikes! Thanks for the reminder that this is exactly why I am down here now instead of up there (next door) in Maine.

Sheesh!

I could do that, the leader does need to grow out a bit to fill in the taper difference between the lower trunk and the upper trunk, but what I'd mainly like to see at this point is ramification verses rampant growth. So I think my game plan is going to be cutting it back hard this spring and then pinching it every time I see something new and green this summer. For food, I use Miracle Grow mainly. I'll supplement with the occasional micronutrient, kelp or fish emulsion feeding - but mainly in the summer time.

Yeah, its been in the single digits this week here. Its what I'm used to, from growing up in MN, but its got the locals shivering to death. They kept trying to scare me with stories of winter when I moved here, but none of them realize that I'm much farther south than I've ever lived, and think the climate is milder than what I'm used to.

Hi guys,

Sorry I did not post these sooner but, Valentine's will do that! (Part of the store is also a flower shop).

Strictly speaking, our subjects are only about a week, week and a half overdue so, no biggy.

Even the one for Centaura with only one leaf (above on right) has back budded nicely. I think it best to work with only one from here on out. As the 'before' is now on another page, I will replace it for a side by side with the latest 'after'.

Cheers,

Arty
