Nice present Ash, and nice display.
One thing, if you are going to use oil on a stone (some purists would be shocked), I would suggest mineral oil as organic oils go rancid. They also get sticky as they dry trapping dust on the surface of the stone.

New aquisition
I have to say that i personally don't like the idea of putting oil on a stone like that, but thats just my opinion.
Better to see the natural beauty come out, maybe a closer photo of the stone?. Best regards BD Paul

Think I got that covered (or uncovered) no more oil for this guy. I will try and get fresh pics soon and a better one of the stone on the left. (in avatar) Ash |

I've looked into the real deal of what one does to prepare suiseki for exhibition and easily saw that I would not live that long!
So as a compromise, I discovered a wax that can be put on a stone ( and easily removed) that holds the colors just like when i found the rocks underwater in a local stream. Pure stoners will be horrified, but I find the method to fill my need. I apply the wax by hand, then brush in with toothbrush, then give it a sheen with a shoe brush. So you don't have to ask, the taki-ishi (waterfall stone) was found in British columbia , Canada |
