Please, tell us more of your ideas for their futures. I would love to have that first trunk to work with.

Hi Russ welcome to the site. I like tree no 1 the best. If it were mine i would pot it into a bigger training pot for a year or two and feed it heaps to help it to put on a lot of new growth. Cheers Phil G

Russ, Are you saying the 1st trunk is dead, and you are training a small honeysuckle onto the dead wood? If so have you treated the dead wood with a preservative? Or is it some kind of wood that doesn't need to be treated?

I also notice that the wire you're using appears to have insulation on it, yes? Is it stranded electrical wire, or solid (single strand)? Usually the stranded type is too malleable to hold a branch in place very well, whereas a single strand of soft aluminum or copper in various sizes, holds much better. Don't take these as criticisms, but just hints to speed your learning. Vic

Raphia tape (If thats spelt right) is a good alternative to wire for this type of Bonsai as it doesnt cut unto the softer branches and can be cut off easily.
Whatever you do keep us informed as it looks like a very nice project so good luck. Cheers Phil G.

ok the wire is single core with a plastic coat its only holding the new branches realy lose as they dont take long to stay in position two to three weeks so the wire can then be taken off .. the tape sounds a great idea tho i must remember that one thanks . the trunk has been dead well over a year now and its not changed in any way ie rot or anything like that so im thinking its going to be fine . .
and yes ill post pics of it as its growing as its quite fast growing .
thanks for your comments . Russ
