My banyan ficus bonsai development

Friends,

I have given here the pic of my ficus. I saw this tree in a garden in a fully grown stage upto >6 feet. I was attracted by its immense nebari structure. The top portion was fully cut, and I planned it to develop as a banyan, but now it looks like a simple decideus tree form will be more suitable, your comments were invited

Saravanan,

Nice roots and trunk. You're off to a good start as this can still make a nice looking bodhi tree.

If you decide you want even more rooting (including aerial), a low nitrogen high phosphorus fertilizer in your climate will make them practically explode all over the tree! I use a liquid 6-14-6 and it works great sprayed both in the soil and right on the trunk and lower limbs.

In other words, the banyan style is still there for you.

Cheers,

Arty

Coming along nicely. I was thinking of trying to grow a Banyan tree myself, using either a Ficus Virens or Ficus benghalensis. I was thinking Virens might be better fore aerial root habit. Good luck.

Hi Arty,
Thanks a much for the reply. Indeed I bought a nitrogen-ph manure for the flower plants to bloom more, but I was told they can cause harm to plant if used more, anyhow , I would try some on my another smaller bonsai and let you know the results
