Air layering a Hawthorn
Hi this is my attempt at an air layer. The chosen plant is a Hawthorn that was growing in my garden.
Picture 1 is the 2 branches that i have chosen to air layer. They are on their second year of growth and have been basically grown and styled for this attempt at the air layer. Picture 2 is of the ring of bark that i cut off. I then covered it in rooting gel. Picture 3 is a pot that i cut to fit over the branch. I cut it down the side and made a hole in the bottom to accomodate the diameter of the branch.I then filled it up with compost. Picture 4 is of the bag that i placed over the pot to keep it from drying out. Picture 5 is the finished product, now i have to leave it to mother nature to do the rest. I decided to use pots instead of moss and a bag for the rooting medium as not to agitate any roots that grow by then trying to get them into a pot. Cheers Phil G. ![]() |
