Ebay Erodium

Well, I finally caved and bought something on ebay. Normally I don't like to get something that I haven't seen in person before, but this was very reasonable, and worst case if it didn't survive I really liked the pot.

So, I figured, since no one has posted a shohin thread yet, that I'd start it off with my new guy. He's a little worse the wear for his travels, the shipper put a hot pack in with the tree because he was shipping to me in winter, but I think the holiday mail traffic kept it delayed for almost a week before it got to me. Its still green, and I have it in a recovery greenhouse - I'm fairly confident that its going to pull through. But worst case, I really liked the pot it was in as well as it.

Once you peeled the little guy from the back of the postage stamp, you ain't told us what it is?
To me with that light green growth he has suffered from the lack of light.
I don't see why he would not pull through.
Let us know how you get on with him. Cheers.

My wife calls the shohin "Ni se ve" which roughly translates to "you can not see it".
Nice whatever it is.

Sorry, but this is not a shohin, and not even a mame, it's a kusamono, an accent plant.

I think.

Was seriously giving some thought of placing in a mame forum but I doubt I'll install a kusamono one! Too many forums can be somewhat distracting and detrimental to a forum site. However, if any one thinks that a mame forum would be a good idea please let me know on the "Forum Feedback".

As for Centaura's plant, I believe my parrot Brandy has left bigger droppings than that! That's a tad too small for me and you had better be careful if you leave on vacation and depend on someone watering it for you! Those small ones require intensive care at all times.

Vacation?!? I would worry over a long lunch! This would require 3 x a day for me outside. Cute though.

We had a member on the last site who had dozens of them. What he had was a tray with moist sand in it, bury the pot in it and that was enough for those little guys to get water. Cheers.

Prowler - its an erodium, a member of the geranium family. This picture is from before I bought it, its travel was rough on its little leaves, and it lost a lot of them. But its got some new ones coming, so I think its okay.

Alaink - right now its more looking like a companion plant, bit with a little work to develop some branch structure, I hope to have it be a mame. I have seen several erodium mames, and they work very well with the tiny bonsai sizes.

Marka - my trick is that I use a seed-starting greenhouse to give my mames a highly humid environment. I only need to water then every other day, believe it or not.

Phil - no worries on the mame forum. There aren't that many folks around who deal in the micro-tiny guys. They technically can fall under a 'shohin' category - as long as you're talking less than a foot tall.

Thanks all for the other comments, I've been away dealing with family visiting and haven't been on my computer much.

Here is a pic of the guy a week after getting home. The previous pic was the pic off ebay. He spent almost a week in the mail, and the leaves were pretty bad when I got him. But, he's showing new green growth everywhere except the farthest right hand branch. I got it because I thought he would be coming two-day mail with a heat pack. He had the heat pack, but wasn't here in two days. I'll also add a pic of my other erodium - his new big brother.
