Well that's an interesting thought, and one that had never crossed my mind. It does make a lot of sence. As to the pots I have looked and found one semi cascade and that's it. If you happen to run across a supply please let me know. Good growing Paul |

I haven't checked this out yet, but if I were you I'd try Brussel's, and Bonsai by the Monastery (I think that's the name.) Those for starters, anyway.

The thing is, if we are speaking about a mame even a full blown cascade has rules. If you think about it, the tree could be in a 2gall. pot and touching the ground, that aint no Mame, more info. is needed about this. Cheers.

By the way,
I'm always interested in rules and regulations, just for the sake of it, but frankly : Do you really care if your bonsai is 5 inches and 132nd of an inch instead of less than 5 inches and 128th of an inch?... Do you value the norm more than the aesthetics?... Will you get a prize/medal/reward/promotion if you abide to the "4 inches rule" ?... Come on, show us your tree: if it's bad, we won't say it's bad because we'tre civilized people, if it's good, what the heck if it doesn't fit into a "norm"?... |

Alain
I have broken every rule you could think of about a tree. But, we should think of younger people that are just getting into the hobby? They need to know the rules, or else it would turn into a disaster, i am not saying you are an old geezer like me,

The best source of bonsai pots that I know is Bonsai by the Monastery - www.bonsaimonk.com . Unfortunately, they don't have all their pots on their online store, and a trip to them is the best bet. They are just outside Atlanta, GA. Other than that, I'd try a local bonsai show that had vendors coming. The Bonsai Societies of Florida seem to be an active group and might be able to help you out with some more local sources.
As for the height - I do believe that Treebeard is correct, its the measurement from the lowest point to the highest point. I'm not at home, or I'd look up my notes from a shohin lecture I attended last summer at the ABS seminar. I think they mentioned it there. -Centaura |

Thanks for your input! Yep Bonsaimonk has a lot of stuff, and yes they don't have it all online for whatever reason. I was there twice on my way back from visiting at Indy. But I didn't see any Mame pots. I think I'll drop them an email and ask about this, as I think they have an off sight warehouse. Good growing Paul |

I had to laugh when I read your reply, though it wasn't at you. I found there some 1/2" pots and 3/4" pots that I had seen no where else, and thought that their collection of mame pots was larger than I had ever seen. But, I also know that they get huge shipments in and they often run out of things that they'll be out of until the next shipment comes in. They had few 'larger' mame pots when I visited (the size that you'd be looking for for a 4" cascade), and were explaining to me that they were waiting for another shipment to get in. Try to get your hands on their print catalog - I do know that they had every size imaginable in there in every style.
There is also Plant City Bonsai outside of Atlanta in Clermont, but I haven't gotten to them yet to see what they had. Atlanta is only three hours south of my mother's new house, so I should have the chance to check them out some time in the future. -Centaura |
