Lonicera nitida

Lonicera nitida is a great species : easy to propagate from cuttings, self-layers when in a hedge, small leaves, pruning similar to topiary.

And great for mame !

This one is from a branch that layered itself, i put it in a 12 cm pot in June, and repotted it today.

last summer I took 24 cuttings of Lonicera nitida (cultivar is Baggesen's Gold). To my surprise, ALL of them struck roots. I'm looking forward to messing around with them in the coming years.

Yes, Boondock, I tried cuttings in the Spring and it was a success with small branches (a few mm).
Last summer, I prepared a big lonicera which is in my garden to uproot it in the spring, so I cut it back hard as to make it backbud before the end of the season, and I planted rather large cuttings (as thick as my thumb) just for a try; that was in August.
To my surprise, apparently they have all taken root (I sort of protected them this winter by putting outside a window of my garage).

So now I would say that the best period to take larger cuttings from lonicera is in late summer.

Pictures : Agust 25th and October 10th.

They're beginning to put new leaves, I'll wait until the risk of frost is over before putting them in separate pots.

Update :

All the cuttings have rooted. I put two of them in mini-pots today.

I can't believe it is so easy to make cuttings from lonicera nitida!

By golly I like this little tree, a lot. But must confess that I had never heard of it beforeso I googled it -- Boxleaf Honeysuckle -- I must start looking for some. BTW the pot is very nice too and fits the tree.
Good growing

I grow lonicera Nitida, L Nitida Aurea and L pileata as topiary Balls, Cones and Spirals.
When I trim them I have to use a ground sheet to collect every little peice of trimming otherwise every little peice will grow.
The Lonicera plant still manages to surprise me where and when it will grow.
