I have a nice rough bark type elm that I have been trying to root since spring. So far, I have had success with only one cutting. A few questions if you don't mind: Do you put a cover over your cuttings? What sort of mix do you use? What is your success-rate with elm cuttings? What is the largest cutting you have had success with? Did you soak it in water or anything like that?

Thanks a lot,
Nick.

don't mean to hi-jack here, but one of my cuttings had roots growing through the drain holes yesterday. I gave the long tap root a little snip and put it in a little grow pot. If I remember correctly, it only took about a month and a half.

I think this was already mentioned... but i am so curious! Were the cuttings covered with any sort of plastic and/or were they left outside in direct light?

Hi Markhr, yes the cutting were covered, they were placed in a small propagator with the vent holed closed (left to steam up) and the lid was remooved for 20mins or so daily to let fresh air around the leaves. They were left outside but not in direct sunlight as this helps with new root growth. Hope this helps cheers Phil G.
