Firethorn Seeds
Hi ,
I have a pack of Firethorn seeds and wasn't sure when they should be germinated. I live in South,Tx; most plants outside are buding. Is it to late?, if not, how would I germinate these seeds? The pack has instructions on the back but they are not very clear. Thanks |

When you say Firethorn I'm assuming you're refering to Pyracantha?
The Tree and Shrub Expert by Dr D.G Hessayon suggests on page 46: "Propagation: Sow seed under glass in spring or plant cuttings in a cold frame in summer" Not knowing your climate, My advice would be wait for someone a little closer to home chime in as well, but if you were in the same climate as me I'd say go for it. Hope this is of some help. -Matt-

Hey Matt,
Yep on the back of the pack it says Japanese Firethorn ( Pyracantha angustifolia ). Where I live it's humid and already 70+ degrees F, eveything is buding. I have 2 packs of these seeds with 4 seeds in each pack. I may use 2 seeds and do the best I can as an experiment to see what happens. Should be a fun experience. Thanks for the advice. |
