Winding down for the summer break

Hi,

slowly I am getting for my summer break as far as pottery is concerned. Though it is really fun to make pots it seems a pity to spend the evenings indoors when it is slowly getting warm and summery... Today I picked up my latest batch of pots where I had just been fooling around with different glazes. As the black clay is something my teacher hasn't worked much with yet she couldn't tell me what to expect... so I just happily splashed all kinds of glazes on trying for different effects.

I find most of the effects rather interesting though the round cup with the "craters" seems a bit too odd but still - only way to learn.

What do you guys think?

P.S.: Apart from the first pot they are all for accent plants...

Nice work. I like them all, but I really like the first one. I like the color combo, and the design. What size is it?

Mike

I love the first one, it looks like something I made back-in-the-day. The second one looks like a hollowed metorite, very handsome. The tan ones would be great when my paper-bark birches are big enough (though the pots would have to be bigger). I am still thinking on the black-on-black tray. It seems you have found your winter-calling. Little Ravenna will spend her summers tending trees and her winters near the warmth of the kiln as she creates new pots for them.

Hi,

glad you like the pots. The large one is about 22x25cm.

The "tan ones" are with two different glazes btw. the first of them is slightly turquoise while the next is whitish brown... These would be a bit small for your trees I think Jim - unless you have moved on to mame??? Sooooo... what colour (and size) do you want your pots Jim???

Hmmm, 30X 45cm would be nice about 15cm deep. With the rough edges of the first pot and the glaze of the third one. Might be easier to import you and have you make them here. Can you get that glaze receipt for me?

Hi Jim,

notice something??? We are online at the same time... hasn't happened for the last 100 yrs I think...

I think "importing me" is not going to be worth the pots you will get (haven't you got those accent pots yet??? ). I am sure you can make those pots much better yourself. So the question is: will I tell you that top secret glaze recipe which was supposed to be the basis for the raging success of my pots in the bonsai world...

Well, after this long preamble you may not believe me but... I only know the name my teacher gave that glaze. She calls it "turquoise-grey" according to my notes. She uses commercial glazes but I don't know the official brand name/glaze name. So I fear you will have to wait till I have a thriving bonsai pot business ehmm.. I mean till I restart with my classes in autumn...

But in case you still feel you would like to have a pot of that kind (by me - you must be crazy... ) in autumn and are too lazy to make a better one yourself let me know in autumn with more detailed specs..

The postman has yet to come through with a package. They would be posted here with a huge smiley if he had.

pots

I think once again you have hit the jackpot. I love the copper one (the green one) but they all show your lovely art.
Good growing

Hi,

thank you very much for all your praise - it is encouraging to see that people like what I make.

Don't hesitate to make critical remarks too though - it helps to learn.

@Jim: you should be getting that package slowly. Not sure anymore when I had said that I had sent it but they said it would take only a couple of weeks. Keep your expectations low though - I am still very much in the learning phase...
