On time for re-potting...
Here some of my new pots... the dragon pot and the round pot are made with coloured clay - something I haven't used before. As you can see the colours are not quite as bright as with my last batch...

Love them, I especially like the one in the third picture, the round one is my second favorite. The dragon one is a wonderful piece of art I am just not partial to dragons. What sort of clay did you use to make them? I have made a few with polymer clay and my trees don't seem to mind it at all.

Hi Mortalis,
glad you like them. I can understand that you are less partial to dragons - it is a very different style compared to classic japanese pots but my teacher makes many things with animals and "monsters" and it was actually one reason why I decided to start classes with her too because I really fancied learning that. The clay I use is stoneware. The pot you like best is made out of coarse black spanish stoneware. The others are made out of white stoneware. The colours are due to coloured clay on the basis of the same white stoneware. I have never used polymer clay so I can't compare them. You should show some of your pots too if you make pottery. |

Polymer clay is based on PVC. You bake it in an oven for 15min per 1/4 inch and it turns into hard plastic comes in a hundred or so colors. I guess I can post a couple of them.. they are obviously armature work though. I will one day this week.

All are very nice, the moon bowl is my favourite. For your first carving, it shows much promise.
The coloured clay bases can be a lot of fun to work with. You seem to be gaining mastery over the medium and your creativity is starting to come to the fore.

Hi,
glad to hear that you like my pots Jim. You did confuse me a tad here though: why are you talking about a carving? Hi Mortalis: thank you for the flowers but I am still far from a professional. May be it would be more obvious if you could see my pots in reality. Thank you for posting pics of your pots. Those pots are good you. If you want to get better there is just one thing: continue practising I am not very gifted at those things found it very helpful to take lessons. There are loads of little tricks you can learn to get the results you want. I am not sure where the 8th layer is but in the UK you can get some very good books on pottery which I found helpful too.... Well, I should get going: I was planning to try a new bicycle out and cycle the 36km to visit my dad today. |

Well I made a couple last night and went online to get some actual info on how to work polymer clay and came up with some better results this time. It seems that with polymer clay you have to let it sit for a min to cool down or it just gets to soft to work well. Made one and made slices around the outside with a razor knife that is not bad. My wife being that she had no preconception of what it had to look like made a really interesting pot that I plan on using for an accent plant soon. I'll post both later on.
