Going potty

Hi,

unfortunately I am having a break as far as pottery is concerned over the summer as I am too busy but I finally got round to taking pictures of my last pots for accent plants and I thought I'd show them to you.

Let me know what you think...

Very nice, summer is over so back to the studio with you, young lady!

Hi,

glad you like them. I was playing around trying new things so I wasn't sure at all how it would turn out...

@Jim: once I am less busy I will certainly go back to the studio... but for the time being...

Hi,

that is one glaze which has different shades. I have the impression that it depends on the thickness of the glaze just like the blue/red glaze I have on one of my earlier pots.

Very nice pots, Ravenna. I think your leftmost pot (in the pics) might even work with a conifer, with that subdued glaze.

As for your thread title ... I know you're not a native English speaker, but that title sounds like a deliberate pun. And a successful pun is hard to make in a language not your own. So -- is it deliberate?

Hi treebeard,

thank you for your feedback. Good to hear that some of you think that my first attempts at bonsai/kusamono pots are usable. Not sure whether you wanted to use the leftmost pot for the tree or with a kusamono. Just have to point out: these pots are tiny so no tree would fit in them.

As regards the title: I guess you haven't read that many posts by me yet. Otherwise you would know that I have a bad habit of making silly comments like that... so yes... it was deliberate...

My point remains: you made a successful pun in a language not your mother tongue, something not easy to do. Your command of English is to be congratulated!

Europeans in general are more likely to be fluent in more than one language than are we Yanks, to our shame. But with the greater globalization of the world's economy, maybe we will be forced out of our comfortable little box. It will be to our good if we are.

I think the glaze on that leftmost pot might go well with a black pine, whether JBP, ponderosa, or some other. Have you thought of making bonsai-sized pots with those glazes?

Hi,

unfortunately there are no bowing or curtseying smilies around so I fear you have to make do with a simple smilie but thank you for the compliment...

I went to a school where foreign languages are very important and so I started learning my first foreign language (French) when I was six years old. I think it really helps you to learn additional languages.

I do make bonsai pots too. I had tried a blue brown combination on a larger pot too once (pics are on a different thread here) but the colour scheme didn't really work out quite the way I had wanted. I am still not 100% happy about the glaze combination either. The beige-brown glaze tends to be rather light. I would have to see whether applying it more thickly it will turn the shade I am looking for. As regards the blue I would like it be more luminous though not shiny.

But once I have the right combo I will use it on a larger pot... it just seems a pity to invest so much time in a pot and then the glaze doesn't "work". Though luck is part of the whole thing too....

Do you make pottery too?
