Might as well!

Well, I might as well be the first to post a picture!
This goes back from the early days of Bonsaichat.org when it first got started. Not many to choose from as I have never considered myself as very photogenic and actually I don't care to have my picture taken. This was taken about four or five years ago unbeknownest to me at the time by my girlfriend.

I was tightening the wires on the bottom of the pot which held my now dearly departed 30 year old (at that time) Hackberry. (God, that tree was damn beautiful) Matter of fact, that is the trunk I used to make my epiphytic ficus of which I posted an article on at BC.O. When the soil was wet it weighed in at over 40 lbs.

OK.....more picture please! Don't be shy.

Phil! Stop living in the past!
Only joking my man. Congratulations on getting this up & running sooo quickly.

Here's a more updated photo of me (since the beginning of BC). Taken on a recent trip 'over East' to a place I used to live at on The Great Ocean Road.

Cheers,
Frank

Introduce Myself

Hi all, Thought it best to introduce myself to new and old members alike, who don't know about me.

I'm 18, Live in Cheshire, England, Great Britain, I've been keeping Bonsai since around 2003, my first tree was a Variegated Serissa, who is still with me, but I think she's on her last legs now. I am a qualified Horticulturalist, and will soon be a qualified Propagator, and I have a NPTC Tractor Proficiency License, my specialist field is trees and shrubs, and my dream job would be to own my own tree and shrub nursery one day.

I am currently working for the UK's leading Garden Centre chain, part-time during the weekends to fund college studies. I'm studying at Reaseheath College, Nantwich, Cheshire, and the plans are for the minute to leave the college when this course finishes in 2008.

I am a Bronze medal winner in the UK Landscaping Skills Competition, sponsored by BALI, after competing against teams from other colleges across the UK to create a landscaped garden in a set time frame.

I have worked for the world renowned Hillier Nurseries based in Hampshire as the work experience based part of my course.

I am all up for reducing climate change! I'm trying to keep my carbon footprint low, by not taking unnecessary car journeys, turning lights off, switching to eco-friendly bulbs etc. I Hate to see waste, I have so many once - reject plants in my garden because I've asked at the time if I could have them instead of them getting dumped.

My other hobbies include: Keeping Tropical Fish, Growing Orchids, General Gardening, Archery and Propagation.

Hope thats enough about me, any more and I'll have to get a cover and an index printed as well

-Matt-

Rabbit is actually very good! I will never forget the 'rabbit pie' that I had at this one pub in England (somewhere - I can't recall the location, but I remember the rabbit pie!).

I suppose I could do the intro-thing as well. I'm a wierd person and/or a theatre person - its interchangeable, though I will declare right now that I'm not an actor. Folks always assume theatre=actor, and to techies, being called an actor is an insult. I've loved bonsai since I was a kid, but was not in a position to do more than read about them until a few years ago. I spent almost 10 years on tour, driving coast to coast in the US, and even did a 16 week tour of the UK (Prowler - I also spent a month in Perth, up in your country. Got to drive from there to Inverness and back one weekend- castle hunting. Nice country, Scotland) Been to 48 of the 50 states, and am still working on getting to the last two. But you can't do much with plants when you're away from home 9 months or more out of the year.

Now that I am stationary, and have a house, 15 years of pent-up bonsai frustrations have exploded into a medium-large collection, joining several bonsai clubs and much summer travel to various bonsai shows. Folks at my theatre think I'm nuts, since most of the bonsai activities that I do require minimums of two hour (one-way) drives. But there is no bonsai in the town where I live, and I enjoy the driving.

Great to have you aboard Gustavo!
I've been getting such an enormous influx of spammers everyday that I almost deleted you!! I'm glad my instincts worked again. Hope you enjoy your stay.

Well I'm not big on posting pictures of myself but I decided to throw in an action shot of my other favorite thing to do.

And no I am not the umpire.
