Humidifier vs. misting your trees

I was wondering what is better during winter months when your plants are indoors and your overall house humidity is lower than low, misting or the use of a humidifier or both? I mist and use a humidifier but is all of that really necessary? Are there pros and cons to each?

I think it depends on what sort of tree's you have, also the size of the humidity tray. I personally use as large a tray that will fit on my windowsills, those little ones are a waste of time.
This is a pic of my last one i set up, its almost 4ft long X 16 inch wide, i also mist as well but when i do, about 20mins. later, you would not know i had done it, so, if you need a lot of humidity for Ficus use both. Cheers.

You forgot to add a caveat I believe Scotty. That light if I remember a previous post puts out a lot of heat does it not?

This is true, but i tried to keep on the subject that was posted, i suppose i could have spoken about heat from light's, room temps. etc. etc.
Then the next thing that would be asked would be about lights, and heat.
Ficus need all the help they can get if you cant put them outside, BLAST !! them with everything that ups the humidity, they will respond better.
See ya later Rick. Merry Xmas.

I wasn't trying to hijack the thread towards lights, just that that particular light emits a lot of heat, hence why your leaves dry so quickly after misting.

A Merry Xmas to U2.

The answer depends on what humidity levels you need and what you are achieving with your humidifier. Are you using a hygrometer to monitor your conditions?

i don't have any equipment to measure humidity and no money right now to get one.

Shouldn't the trees be sitting above the humidity tray like on rocks? Or should the tray just be nearby?

... that's the whole idea behind it. You'll find that the humidity around the base of the tree to be about 60-70%

I would not spend money on fancy do-das. Humidity ain't exactly a high tec. thing, you either give them it or not.
Those trays i use only cost £5 UK each, after that i cant do much else, remember this is for inside tree's, outside you need a sprinkler system, this you can adjust, timers etc. Cheers.
