My tropicals are inder banks of lights (Enough so that I had to invite the local police chief to view the trees less he think I was growing something else!) I mist often and have gravel-filled trays under the trees. I keep the water level in the trays almost touching the bottoms of the pots. I do find come spring I will have roots growing into the gravel.

warm-mist, cool-mist evaporative, ultrasonic, impeller, or the vaporizer. So clearly, what--YOU--need is the...uh....um...er...
If you're interested in going with a room humidifier (for those whom feel that it will benefit them or their trees) - I recommend evaporation systems. Anything that puts out an actual mist (in my experience and with my hard water) leaves behind a residue (the same calcium/lime deposits as on pots & sinks, just tinier), and puts too much condensation around it. But I have good luck with the evaporation systems - as humidity is what is put out, verses mist which will collect around the unit and start moisture problems. These will typically keep a room around 50% humidity (at their highest setting) which is a good balance point.

I second what Centaura says. I've found misting humidifiers to be prone to clogging and simply not up to what I want.

Herewith a picture of my "humidifier:" a tray of water on a heating mat made for seed-starting. Low-tech, but does the job quite nicely!
