RHS Tatton Park Flower Show 2011 'Back to Basics'
Hey all, been a busy year for me this year, hence the lack of posts etc, In July however, I was fortunate enough to be invited to build a small show garden at the RHS Tatton Park Flower Show. It was a really good learning experience, and absolutely brilliant for me and my career so I thought I would show all my bonsai friends some photos of the build up and the garden itself.
I had just over a week to build the garden to RHS show quaity, and was presented with a rectangle of mud, 6 x 4 meters in size with a small fence. The garden is designed to be basic (hence the name 'Back to Basics'), and something that could be easily recreated by the members of the public, the plants are all relatively easy to aquire and grow, with plenty included for texture, sound and colour. Unfortunately I just missed out on a medal, being a few points off a Bronze, but the judges were fantastic and explained to me exactly where I lost points, and gave me plenty of tips for next time.

Wow. very impressive, Youngun. A week to design and create a garden to very exacting standards definatly allows you to sho your skills. Missing a medal on your first go-round is a good idea, otherwise the ones who have missed-a-medal for years might get upset.
Next year the gold.

It was a challenge, I had to submit the design in december the year before, but I had to change quite a few aspects, and the plants weren't playing ball, trying to get a load of plants to flower at an exact time, on an exact day is not very easy at all!
I think I will leave it for a couple of years, my girlfriend finishes university next year, and we will be looking to find somewhere to live, so money and time will be very limited. But gold is definately the target in the future! Once you master Tatton, Chelsea next ![]() Cheers -Matt-
