Orange spots on trident trunk

I have a large trident maple which has orange spots all over the trunk. Is this a disease? If so how do I treat. Thanks.

Orange spots on the trunk?
I've heard of orange or rust colored spots on leaves but I'm afraid that's a new one to me. Hopefully someone else can possibly shed some light on this.

Can you post a picture of it? Are there small holes as well?

Orange spots on trident trunk

Here is a pic for closer examination. No holes in the trunk from the spots.

There is an orange fungus that grows on bark (brain fungus?) but this does not seem to match up with what your tree has.

The first thing to come into my head is Coral spot, but this normally doesnt produce the orange spots until that part of the plant has died?!? Here's a link anyway, and I'll keep digging:

I have checked all over and cannot seem to identify what is going on. Everything seems healthy. I may just use a soft brush and some water to see the orange spots come off?

How long did it take to develop? Is the tree still acting healthy?
I have seen a lichen that is orange like that. I don't know much about it though.

The spots started about 8 weeks ago. They have completely covered the trunk. No spots on branches or the leafs that are left. The tree seems healthy.
