Orange spots on the trunk?
I've heard of orange or rust colored spots on leaves but I'm afraid that's a new one to me. Hopefully someone else can possibly shed some light on this. ~Phil~

Orange spots on trident trunk

There is an orange fungus that grows on bark (brain fungus?) but this does not seem to match up with what your tree has.

The first thing to come into my head is Coral spot, but this normally doesnt produce the orange spots until that part of the plant has died?!? Here's a link anyway, and I'll keep digging:
