Noissee...I am not sure about the yaupon holly...but it could be. I have a 14" bonsai pot that is 3.5 deep, I think it will fit in there.
Oh....yeah......quote: "that's the same kinda we got around here. they are very difficult to collect successfully".....you mean that pine that you put the Pirates curse on ...it's Dead! I still have it in the pot like it is going to come back to life...of all the pines I collected last year only one is still alive. I think the biggest problem was/is they are in an old "sand" pit / red dirt. When I dug them up most all the dirt came off the roots. I went back a few months ago and cut the top out of a couple and left them in the ground to see what happens. Thanks, Have A Great Day! Michael |

there is a awesome article by a lady who used to live in Fl who started perfecting the collecting methods of the native pines around here. I'll try to scan it and upload it. she found that collecting was best done in the dead of winter, and for the sand pines, she dipped the roots in a home-made muck after getting them out of the ground. she also learned more little quirks that improved her survival rates. I'll definitely have the info available by winter time, so for now...just find the trees you want to collect and mark em.

Thanks, I will look forward to reading it. I did put the roots in a bag with some root stimulate/water in it, but did not help much. I will be interested to find out a successful way of collecting, I have access to many pines. As I have found out ours do not back bud, but if you find the right one it will have what you need in place already.
Thanks, Michael |

I got a pot to cut down and get the boxwood in to start some cutting. I will have to cut the roots next year to get it in a bonsai pot. This is what it looks like now that I can take a picture.
Keep LOOkin Up! Michael |
