JBP Pruning Revisited
There have been a couple of other threads along this line recently, but I thought I'd offer up photos of a couple of JBP saplings that I bought online last fall. The time is very close, I feel, to decide what, how and where to prune. Or not to prune. I have some vague ideas, but will reserve comment in hopes that Brent or Chris or others among our JBP aficionados will comment on the hows and whys of establishing future trees.
These are in six-inch pots with trunks +/- 3/8." Height is about a foot. Thanks--DR

Kansai,
I wish I had some info to share with you about your jbp, I am just learning also. What I did see on your trees is the same thing I noticed on the JBP I purchased on line also. They are about the same size as what you have. I see that the vendor has already picked some of the needles in a couple of places on the tree. I had posted asking if that was something I should continue with or not. I will enjoy watching this thread as it will be good info for me also. Have A Great Day! ML |

kansai these are very young trees and not matter what size you are after you need to put alot of bulk on them first. with these if they were mine i would find the tree in the fist branch, then strip the rest of the trunk only to leave the head on top. like john puts it a lions tail. pot up size (pot box or ground) and letm rip for 2 to 3 years. at some stage (not now) you may groom the tree in the bottom branch.
