New Beech

Hey guys, I collected this tree from a customers garden yesterday, and thought I would show you.

Its a Fagus Sylvatica (European Beech), and it was about 20 foot tall. The customer wanted it removing, so I obliged . It didn't take too much work to get it out either, cut through a few larger roots, and a fair bit of rocking it in the hole and it soon came loose.

Although in the first pictures it looks like it has reverse taper, in real life its un-noticeable. The roots have fantastic potential, and the trunk is perfectly sized!

I've left the branch right at the top to help draw the sap come spring, and have potted it in a gritty compost in a recycling box (I'm good at recycling).

Hopefully next year we will get buds coming out all over the trunk, and if not, we will grow what we do get and will graft them further down the trunk to make a very nice formal upright.

What do you guys think? I know theres going to be one hell of a scar to hide, but beech are pretty good at covering over such things.

Cheers

-Matt-
