Question about pics

Hi,

I received a nice PPS in my mail recently (2.5 Mb: too large for Photobucket)

1. How and where can I upload it so it can be accessed by You guys.

2. How do You create a link in your text in such a way
that the hotlink word is just something like "here"
instead of a load of rather unsightly "http..." command directives.

Looking forward to the answer. . .

Greetz,

Michel

Hi Michel a very merry Xmas to you and all the family.
I think Pearly would be the man to answer that one. 2.5 Mb is a fair old size, i think it would be a bit large for people who don't have Broadband.
You could Email me a copy if you want, but you had better hurry up, i am about to crack open a 1 Ltr, bott. of Captain Morgans Spicy Rum from Santa, so the eyes may not function in their usual way.

Michel, I take it that you simply wish to replace the lengthy URL with a word of your choice as in Picture or Here?
That can be done by using the the "Insert Link" box. This is the blue icon that is furthest to the left. Simply open that up and you will get a box that says, "Please enter the URL of your link"
First highlight the word that you wish to use in your text as in "Picture" then open that box. Then simply copy and paste the URL that you wish to use into that box You will notice http:// highlighted in blue. Simply leave that as is and paste your URL next to it and then click on OK. The word that you highlighted should now be blue and underscored and is now a link to whatever URL you pasted in that box. Hope I explained that well. If not just let me know.

By the way, I like your avatar, "The Great Wave" by Hokusai is it not? Well, at least or portion of his painting.

For the pictures that are too big for the forum, you can use a software to reduce/convert them, such as IrfanView (free), or if you really insist on posting a big size picture, you can use for instance ImageShack : a thumbnail linking to the full-size picture will be displayed in your message, but this is not recommended because often links get broken after a while.

(here, a berberis that was displayed at our local exhibition in September)

Thanks for explaining the "here" item, Phil, I think I got that now;
and I'm sorry for the extra burdon I cause,
but I can't figure out the following;
I wished - I still do - to upload a big pps (mult.images; 2,6 Mb)
to be shown, and I don't know how to go about that;
or am I to break it down (PPT) as only option ?

And yes, it's the reknown Hokusai wood print, all right;
I've been fascinated by it ever since the first time I saw it.

If at all possible, please help me with the first 2 items here,

Cheers ans seasons' greetings to You all.

Greetz,

Michel

Never a burden Michel. As said, the site was opened much earlier than I had anticipated and many settings to be done yet. Some isues I will not find out about until members like you make me aware of them

Are you simply having a difficult time in uploading a large image as an attachment? When I get time I'll have to go into the permissions section as to picture limit size and see what it is currently set for. One of the many things I have not gotten into yet. Appreciate your anticipated patience with these irritating issues that arise from time to time.

No Phil, that's not the case;
As I use photobucket to add my pics,
I'm allowed 1Meg. per picture, which is quite adequate;

It's just that in case someone would like to attach something like
a PPS photo string (dia slide show),
I would like to know how You can go about doing that ?

BTW: Thank You for all Your doings to set up this site
and keeping us all, bonsai friends from throughout the globe,
together.

Michel,
First of all, thank you for your compliment as to the site.

As for pictures being able to be shown here as a slide show (if I got your meaning right?) I doubt that would be not possible except of course to a link that can handle that. The only program on this site that can handle somewhat of a slide show at present would be the Gallery section. Aside from my being able to increase/decrease the size limit of photo's that can be placed in ones post I fear that is about the extent of it. If however I do run across something in the future as to how this can be implemented I'll certainly make it known to all. Have been spending most of my time as of late trying to sort out the Article/Dynamics program and the associated module to it on the Homepage. It's going a tad rough but I'll sort it all out eventually. One step at a time.

There are loads of progs. that can do this for you, the prob. is when you try to download it to a site, it will refuse to do it.
I have tried to download a bit of music just to perk up a Xmas message to members, this has never worked even though it is well bellow our 97k limit
Also, Avatars on some sites allow you to have motion? on them, i think Pearly is sorting that out, but at the moment he is beavering away to get the site up and running, once this is done i will pounce on him for those extras that we need. Cheers.
