What Browser are you using?

I’m placing in this poll to simply satisfy my curiosity as to which browsers most of you are using.
It will also help me in possibly answering any issues that may arise if and when someone is having some problems with the site as not all browsers are fully compatible with vBulletin.

As many of you may or may not know is that the new Google browser has just been released called: Chrome. I did some experimenting with it and I’ll have to admit it is very fast but there are some issues with it. The first thing I noticed is that it does not support the WYSIWYG editor on vBulletin and possibly a few other issues. I was also quite surprised to find out that the other top browsers such as Safari and Opera also do not support WYSIWYG editing.

I use Firefox although I still have I.E. simply because it’s part and parcel of the Microsoft OS and cannot be removed and at times is necessary when accessing certain Web pages. I have the older version which I believe is I.E. 6 and is totally useless on this site and many others. If any of you still have that version I would strongly urge you to update to the 7. It’s easy to tell if you have the older version as you will not be able to see the Gallery pictures at the top of the Forum page. It will also not support .png images which are used in various locations on this site.

Getting back to the Google Chrome browser I would not encourage one to use it just yet as it may possibly have some security issues and is still in the Beta stage.

I tried Google Chrome, and didn't get on with it, but there is a new version of Firefox out (well newer than the one I had), It's completely free and I'd recommend it to anyone!

What does your site statistics say about what browsers visitors use?

I can pull up quite a few stats for the site however it does not show what browser a member is using. You have to remember that using a browser is "active". In other words, one might have possibly registered on the site on their home PC using FF but may at times access the site from a work computer using I.E., changed browsers or may even have several browsers.
At one time I had four on my computer!

With that I could have made the poll a multiple choice but then it would only get confusing. I'm simply after what browser each member normally uses on this site.

Ohh ok, I thought your host may supply log statistics which would give you a full view of what browsers your members and visitors are using. I would try Google Analytics, it's free and will help you get a full view of what's going on. On most of my sites, IE 6 is still being used by around 20% of my visitors, while Safari and Opera claim some where around 15%. So they are browsers that you will probably have to contend with here.

Yes, I had forgotten about Google Analytics.
It's not really so much of a matter of what I (this site) has to contend with but more of what member's who are using other browsers have to contend with.

From what I understand is that Opera is about 99% close to being WYSIWYG enabled as for vBulletin as it's coding for it is pretty intense. I simply don't want anyone to miss out on what this site has to offer or see which can easily be missed out with some browsers that are not really that far up to par. I.E.7 seems to have finally gotten their act together in some respects but FF has been there for a long time. I just hope that others will follow their example.

What if you have I.E. but don't know which version? I honestly don't know. Whatever came with my computer.

Simply click on the HELP tab at the top and then click on ABOUT INTERNET EXPLORER. It should tell you what version you have.
