Azaleas

Hi,

just thought I'd show you the two azaleas I recently got myself. The magenta has more vivid colours than I managed to get out of the photo. It is still quite young but I really liked the flowers and it looks nice on my balcony with my other azaleas.

The Shiraume is actually a semi-cascade... the trunk curves rather roundly before coming down again but I liked the way the trunk with all the flowers comes forward - just like a women who has her hair cascading down over her shoulder - hence the name "Rapunzel". (I assume the name is the same when the German fairy tale is translated into English?)

Hmm... sorry for some reason the picture appears turned to the right on my computer but not when I insert it here - I am not sure what the problem is... Can may be one of the moderators change that for me? Sorry.

I will always envy your azaleas. They just don't strive where I live.

Hi Marrero,

long time no see. I agree - I really like azaleas. They make nice bonsai when they don't flower and make my balcony so much livelier when they do. My Wakaebisu is flowering a lot too this year so I really enjoy looking onto my balcony.

The blue and the white clematis are slowly fading but I have five different roses flowering at the moment and some have a REALLY nice scent... Some of my accent rhodohypoxis are flowering too and look really cute. I am really quite happy with my balcony plants this year.

How are your plants faring?

Thumbs up Beautiful

Hi Ravenna,

Your Magenta Azalea reminds me of when I travelled through the Southern states here in the U.S. when I was younger and fell in love with the Azalea. They are grown as bushes in our Southern climes and you see these beautiful Magenta flowers everywhere you travel. Only rarely do you see any white bushes.

I'm not sure how to fix your pic, but I'm sure someone will come along and see to it.

Also....if I may ask, lets see some pics of your other Azaleas? Well, in that case, your whole balcony? Yes, you can update us on your collection.

Hi Cheryl,

glad you like them too. I really like the beautiful nebaris they develop. I was tempted to get really expensive ones but as I have just ordered myself a new bike I need to a bit careful about spending.

Well, I am on my way to hunt some prunus mume. I have been planning to do that for years and now that I have my master I can use my holidays for something different from studying. So I will have to see if and when I get round to taking pics for you. Most of my azaleas have finished flowering though.

Hi Ravenna how are you? I really like your trees especially the cascade as it looks that bit more ''fuller'' and has nicer flowers.
Are you going to pot them in your own pots as i think they would look really good!!

Hi Phil,

I am glad that you like them. Yes the magenta one is still a bit meagre but I think it will improve with time. At the moment I haven't made any pots which go with this trees.

I have a vague idea for the shiraume but I will have to see if and how I can realize that. I am thinking of planting the magenta coloured azalea out in the ground in autumn as it has a very thin trunk at the moment. I will just hope that it will cope with the frost.
