Camellia Bonsai
Hi Folks
I have a large camellia that I removed from a neighbour's garden three years ago. I am of two minds which of two possible ways to start to shape it into an eventual Bonsai . The first would be to remove the cross over branch - #100_3148a, the second is to remove the large straight trunk at the back - #100_3148e. Both have their merits: Option 1 leaves the lower trunk intact and it will be easier to smooth off the cut of the cross over branch. Option 2 would remove a straight trunk leaving two shaped ones. However it will be much more difficult to make a smooth job of the lower trunk. What do you think? I have attached 5 pics of the Camellia. I would appreciate your input on an initial start to transforming it eventually into a large Bonsai. 1) #100_3148 - tree as dug up, 2) #100_3148a - tree with cross over branch removed, 3) #100_3148e - tree with back trunk removed, 4) #7452 - the tree today, 3 years later, 5) #7451 - the reverse side of the tree today, 3 years later. As the attachment max is 120k, I have attached pics #2-5 in separate posts Regards FredB. |

I love camellia bonsai. There not that many but the good ones are delightful. I think they need to be fairly large to support the leaves and large flowers. You're is plenty large, but the problem is that the trunk is pretty straight. If it were mine I'd cut the trunks way back and hope it backbuds in all the right places.
** However, I have very little experience with camellia so my advice is worth exactly what you paid for it. ** |
