Pinus sylvestris Styling

I have a Scots pine in my collection that has had many years of neglect, it was repotted this year into pure Kyodama and has shooted like crazy!

It does how ever need extensive work to be carried out to create some sort of branch structure, and a bit of corrective work on the trunk, which will involve, pruning of unwanted branches and wiring.

I'm a novice with Pines, hence the following question.

When would be the best time to carry this sort of works out (i.e. Wiring and Removal of branches?)

Thanks in advance

Styling is best done in autumn, when the circulation of the sap is at rest. Then you can cut large branches, there is little "bleeding" and the tree can heal before the new growth in spring.

Wiring is best done at that time too, I would say late October, November is the best time.

To bend large branches, you can wrap them in moist cloth for a few days, then use raffia soaked in water for about 15 mn before wiring them. If it's done properly, even if you hear "crack!", don't panic : the raffia will keep the bark in place and even if it's a bit damaged, the circulation of the sap won't be stopped. It's just the old wood cracking. But don't bend it further!
