Quince (Cydonia Oblonga)
This is the european quince, not the Japanese one.
It is used to graft pear-trees here. This one is a root cutting from a dwarf pear-tree that died. I put the cutting in a plastic pot for a few years and in 2005, I planted it in a bonsai pot (1st pic when repotted in Feb. 05) Wired it and in December, and repotted it today (2nd pic). Drawbacks : branches break easily, big scars when a branch is cut. But nice bark and naturally twisting branches. |

I like the taper that you've already achieved. I'm also jealous that you're getting to work on your trees now, I have a couple more months to go before I can start repotting. What is the final height that you're thinking about for this one?

But maybe I'll only keep the first branch on the right, I haven't made up my mind yet, I'll take some advice from my friends at my bonsai club... |
