So basicly The British Justice system has a two year waiting list and while they are waiting they can build their port folio. Shrimpy

Well remember here in New Hampshire we can shoot as long as some part of them is inside the house. So we shoot and drag them over the threshold. Dead men tell no tales. Oh and we have these great things from England. They are shotgun cartrages with tripwire, so you trip the wire and BANG! that will scare them off, though the guard dogs roaming the gardens helps too.

As long as the perpetrator is inside your home you have the right defend yourself in any way possible. In the past I ran across so many people with handguns in there home as means of self defense. More often than not they are useless as they are not at all too easy to hit what your aiming at! People watching too many crime shows and Hollywood cops/actors whipping out their automatic and nailing some criminal with one shot. Make no mistake about it, it takes some training to handle a handgun efficiently and accurately.
I've told so many people in the past that the best detriment to ones home from being broken into is a dog with a loud bark aside from the obvious home alarm systems if one can afford them. If you insist on having a weapon forget the shiny handgun! When that adrenaline is pulsing through your veins and your hands are shaking its 10 to 1 you'll miss! Get a shotgun! Even at 20 feet Barney Fiffe could hit the perpetrator with a scatter gun! As for trip wires or any kind of trap that can possibly cause harm or potential fatality to someone on your property is totally illegal. ~Phil

Phil the shotgun cartridges are not loaded with shot, just the powder and the firing cap. It just makes a lot of noise, so, unless it causes the intruder to have a heart attack, no one is hurt other than their dignity (Ok, a few have needed clean pants after the experience). They are mostly used to ward off pochers who can not read the no trespassing signs, and do more to scare off the game they are after.
As for gun use, I agree, it is useless to have a gun if you are able to handle one properly. Many have been killed with their own guns by unarmed intruders after the intruder took their gun away. I will stay away from the discussion of having a handgun in a house with children.

Yes Jim, I'm afraid I left out the most obvious detriment of having a handgun in the home when there are children about. I've seen two cases of it in my life (death of a child from handgun) and I never want to see something like that ever again.

The best way to have a gun, is have one in a secure gun cabinet with the keys and cartridges kept separate, like our 6 shotguns are
![]() I think over here we can aim, but not shoot, unless of course our lives are in immediate danger, such as they have a gun also, then you have to make sure you finish them off, if they survive they will sue ya! -Matt-

Talk about suing. A prisoner in a jail facility here in Illinois some years ago attempted to escape. While he was being pursued by the guards the prisoner fell and broke his leg on the prison grounds. He sued and yes............he won! What can I say!
