Thank you
I would like to take this time to congratulate my opposition on his/her submission and to thank everyone for selecting my tree.
This tree was a nursery specimen a month ago. The trees height is 11 inches from the soil line with a one inch trunk and a two inch basal flare. The trunk has some nice movement to it, the nebari is consistent on the periphery and should develop an impressive buttress in the future. It is poted up in a Victor Harris pot from Erin Pottery. This pot was the only one suitable at the time and may not be its final resting place. At present the tree has an unkept and "shaggy" appearance. This is normal for Hinokis during their first styling. Wiring of individual foliage pads will take place later this fall. I see the tree's future as a mimic of Walter's maple. It is achievable in 2-3 years. In order to do so the foliage pads will need to be carefully refined in upcoming seasons, but I believe it is well on it's way. Hinokis are my favourite tree to work with as they provide the quickest "bonsai" results. For folks who wish to know more about the care and maintenance of this particular species, my experience cultivating the species can be found here Once again thank you... Congratulations, Rick! You've done a good job already. Maybe another picture or two in a year?
To the elm owner: keep working. That tree definitely has potential. For whatever it's worth, the choice did take some thought. ![]()

Hi Richard,
Beautiful tree, you are always lucky when it comes to finding them! Keep us updated with its progress? I will say that the other tree is very nice as well, and yes, it did take some time to cast my vote.
