Pup...your way off base on this my man! I can only speak for myself here but I never in any way made any negative remarks as to your photography nor was there any need to as it looked just fine to me as of course did the tree.
The replies simply got a tad off base as to photography and for the most part it seems as though yours got pushed in the background as the discussion progressed into a whole other realm! Why did your trees win? Very simple answer to that. Because they deserved to win simply by the obvious fact that more members voted for yours then the others! I will however make an apology to you for letting the thread go too far off topic and I am also to blame for this as I contributed to it. That is why I split the thread off. I would be very disappointed if you felt that you should not enter again. Keep up the good work my man and by all means keep entering those trees of yours. Hell....we don't have nearly enough entries as is! All we need now is one less! Phil P.S. By the way....don't forget that next months entries will be anonymous.

Pup as you know, I hold you in high regard. So that must mean I give a S*** and I certainly don't want you to give up posting your trees here. The fact that BOM is anonymous from next month should also give greater appeal for more of the members.
I think people got too wrapped up in the quality of photography as opposed to the trees and got a bit carried away with trying to raise the bar higher and quicker than embodies the spirit of this 'fun contest'. I will certainly put a tree forward next month. What do you say Pup? Ash Edit: critique is fine as long as it remains subjective and I think Al explained his perspective of depth to give a better understanding for the members. Al is a great teacher but is sometimes misunderstood in his quest for perfection. Please be assured Al is looking beyond anything personal toward any individual, just upholding his beliefs on a particular subject. Last edited by Ashley Barns; 02-25-2008 at 09:51 PM.. |

Hi Ash
I might consider it. What is most disappointing is all this crap after it was posted a winner. I voted for his bloody tree. I will not post for next month though cos I want to see what happens when someone else wins. ![]()

This is the first time I've checked out a thread like this one.
One observation, which I hope will be helpful. In communication face-to-face, non-verbal cues such as facial expression and tone of voice carry at least as much information as the actual words used. (Just think a moment of all the different messages the single word "Fine" can convey, depending on tone of voice.) In written communication, all one sees is the words chosen and the way they are put together in a sentence. Repeat, all. Much emotional context is lost, both positive and negative. Misunderstandings and misconstruing are unfortunately much easier. I think it behooves us all, on a written-only forum like this, to give a little extra thought to our choice of words. And, on the flip side of the coin, I think it's wise to go easy when interpreting someone else's attitude from what they write. If it looks negative, ask; maybe they didn't intend it the way it came across. For what it's worth, my sister and I only recently resolved an awkward 2-year silence brought about by exactly this sort of misunderstanding. So I speak from sad experience. Best to all.

Very good, Phil. Maybe we should all check out each others' signatures a little more often.
