Please Help!
I recently rescued this tree from a pot full of mud that barely drained. After cleaning the roots and transfering it to better soil i found out that it had a white/orange ring around the trunk where it used to meet the mud. It looks like a powdery growth. I also saw a few little holes in the trunk towards the base of the trunk. My first thought was rot from bad drainage but im still not sure what this stuff is and how to treat it. Any advice would greatly help

Actually, Ganja, that looks to me like nothing more than a ring of mineral deposits that precipitated out of the water. Such deposits don't hurt anything unless they build up on the roots to the point where they interfere with the roots' function.
How's the tree's health? If it's showing no signs of distress, I would just keep an eye on it and proceed. With good drainage such deposits will eventually wash away. Anyone else have a different opinion?

But you need to remember that all people see here is what you type, and any smileys you may throw in. Good luck with your tree.

i know this is old but thank you for getting rid of such a rude person. treebeard's comments are always very helpful to people and he is very sincere in his efforts to promote learning. when i saw this directed at him i became very angry. whats the point of such stupidity from people?
