Damaged maple

This field grown maple was severely damaged and lost half its bark and branches from a tractor? It is 15" tall and a trunk circumference of 6 inches. I was looking for some advice whether to trunk chop this year or to leave it alone as see what nature can do. It had good growth last year when put in a training pot. It is getting close to make a decision soon and am not sure what to do. Would appreciate any comments.

Tom

If this was my plant I'd just leave it to heal, get it growing and happy. See what bounces back and grows vigorously. You don't know what's going to come back so Mother Nature may decide the trunk chop for you.

re damaged maple

Yep i would definately leave this tree to grow for a while, feed it heavily with loads of nitrogen and see what happens!! could look really good in a few years time, Phil.

Not really, but that is okay, maples in nature do not usually have jin, but many do have shari.
