Just what we needed...
It seems a new form of Phytophthora is spreding rapidly in Britain:
Spread of killer fungus threatens British trees - Nature, Environment - The Independent Phytophthora cinnamomi is already a major threat to conifers, but not only, other trees can die from it too. So invest in Aliette (Fosetyl-Al), a must for a tree lover. Here's an interesting article in English: FOSETYL-AL: CONTROL OF PLANT DISEASES UTILIZING THE PLANT'S OWN DEFENCE MECHANISMS. It's much easier to keep a potted tree from getting fatal diseases than a garden tree with proper care at the right time, so it's really worth the price. |

Bang on the mark, just what we need, we've only just bred Dutch Elm Disease Resistant elm's!
A quick google later and I've come across a Defra Weblink with information on Symptoms and treatment. http://www.defra.gov.uk/planth/pestnote/kern.pdf If anyone notices symptoms matching the ones described please ensure that you contact Defra in the Uk, or the relevant organisation in other nations. If you can not be sure of what is affecting your plants, and need the disease identified, ensure that you transport ANY samples in an sealed Airtight container to prevent spore spread, the amount of times I've had someone carrying a dead stick into work, saying "what's killing my plant" is unbelievable! -Matt-

This sounds b----y useful, especially given that we bonsai fanatics bring some trees into environments with pests and diseases exotic to them.
Does anyone know if this product is available on the western side of the pond?

We have a very destructive one here in Western Australia, commonly known as Jarrah die-back.
Whilst I agree every one has a right to protest and protect. What amazes me is ,and I have seen this first hand. When the protesters leave the area, where they have been protesting, sic protecting. They never think to wash there vehicles off or there Boots. So when on the way home they call into a Nursery they spread the Bloody disease. Pup![]()
