Thanks to you all,
I checked today and the base of the trunk has dried out. It did still feel a bit soft but I did not press too hard. I think removing the moss will make a big difference. When I watered it today the water went in good, drained good. There is not an easy way to check the roots down in the soil/pot. I have included the picture I uploaded back in April. The tree is the same as it was then, if you look to the left side that is where the limbs are dieing (not at the time of picture). As you can see the lower limbs are very low and make it hard to get to the soil. After removing the moss I have found the soil to be hard, and roots at the top. I think it needs re-potting, but think I should let it get to better health before I do that. Or I guess I could move to a larger pot and not prune the roots at all...? I make it a point to check the time of day and shade on the weekends when I am home. The thing is if I move the tree from where it is, it will be mostly filtered sun through the pines (large trees). I have removed the old dead foliage in the middle before. I am not sure how I can thin the tree to allow more light in and keep its shape. Thanks for all the help, Have A great Day! ML |

No, never heard of that, I will give it a try. In the mean time the bottom of the truck has dried out. Although I can still feel a soft feeling on one side of the trunk at the bottom I don't think it is rot.
Thanks for your Help. ML |

Fox,
I have not done any cutting as I figured it would turn brown. I have been pinching the dead with my fingers. As of this afternoon the tree is not any worse. It seems like the brown has slowed down a bit. Have A Great Day! ML |

The brown is getting worse over the past few days now. I stated in another post that some wasp were in the tree this afternoon, no nest, just 3 wasp. I sprayed some specticide on them ( it is supposed to be all natural and not harm plants or fruit trees, it is really for insects) to get them out, 2 got away. I looked close and it appeared that some of the limbs were wet out at the end, like in the fork. Now this could have been were some of the specticide got it wet. I will check tomorrow. If not is there anything that would cause such?
If I keep pinching off the dead ends it will end up with a big hole in the tree. ML |
