Mape Forest with white bugs and or fungus
My bestfriend has gone out of town and brought me his forest to watch over while he's gone. He's not very experienced so when he told me he was bringing it over, he said it had some white mildew on it. As you can see this isnt mildew and I dont want it contaminating my trees. Can anyone tell me what it is and how to get rid of it. The bugs are as white as the residue, and fly, and the residue is very powderish. Thanks.

Looks like white fly, an insecticide soap will get rid of it in a few applications. Keep it away from your other trees, as it spreads.

ive never had whitefly on my maples however my mugo's and scotts tend to get them in spring if their to wet. i dont find that it spreads but i do believe this might be a product of over watering. i use an aerosol called bug kill for home and garden. 1 to 2 sprays they've gone but allow the pots to dry out a little.

Looks like wolly Aphid to me, Systemic Insecticide (best option they're tough to kill) or remove by hand with a damp cloth then apply an insecticidal soap / contact insecticide.
Good luck -Matt-
