This is a new tree, with new growth still in it's well watered 3" pot, with moss on top. The upper canopy and a few leaves in the lower part of the tree have a dark red/port wine color which is more intense on the underside of the leaves. Other than bad odor and red color, the red leaves behave the same as the green leaves (opening and closing, shape).
No other part of the tree or it's soil smells. My first alert sheet says "too much sunlight" so it's in indirect sun now, although it just came out of a shipping box yesterday, shipped 5/10. Is this normal? What is it and hat can I do about it? I will post pics but the internet is lagging right now. Last edited by mage973; 05-12-2011 at 03:36 PM.. Reason: closer pics |

Hey Mage, I've never had a Texas Ebony before, but I think if I was in your situation I would leave it for a few days and see what happens. I wouldn't rush into doing anything that may cause the tree more stress such as changing the soil of heavy pruning.
As is usual with new trees, I'd keep an eye out for pests and diseases. Keep it out of direct unfiltered sunlight, and don't over water it. It needs time to settle in to its new home. Hope this helps a little, keep us informed of any changes. -Matt-
