Bougainvillea trouble

I have a Bougainvillea with drying buds. The leaves are fine. Every time a bud breaks it dries up and falls off. What could be my trouble?

Thanks

Hmm, need more info on it's care. How dry or wet are you keeping it? How much sun? Inside or out? Any changes or messing with the roots?

It was repoted a couple of weeks ago. I have been keeping it inside under lights for 3 years. It is potted in 100% red lava I water it when the soil surface is totally dry. Should I let it get a little drier?

Do you fertilize it? and if so with what type and how often? The buds not forming or halting there formation in an early stage can be a signs of not enough nutrients, too much watering or not enough light as Bougainvillea prefer strong sun. Bougainvillea can be induced into flowering by a restraint on watering (until the leaves begin to wilt) but I'm not necessarily sure that would be best for your situation. If not done right it can cause the leaves to drop as well.
