Maples that had to be dug up.
These are 4 of what I believe to be sugar maples that seeded between my house and drive way.
I had to dig them up due to the land lords orders. Most of them are far to small for me to even think about anything yet. But i had to dig them up and put them in the only available pots i had at the time. I intend on letting them grow for a few years and my questions are.... Whats the earliest I could repot them ? How big should the pots be that i put them in ? (mind you they will be in these pots for a few years and i cant plant them in my yard) And what mix of soil should i use so i dont run in to any root issues (root rot) ?? Any advise would be fantastic. Thank you Last edited by quinshane83; 01-16-2012 at 02:25 AM.. Reason: forgot a small piece of information |

Did you just dig these?
How well did you get the roots systems? Are they basicly shovel dug with a lot of the origional soil around them or did you bare root them? where are they being kept right now? Are picture 2 and 3 the same plant? Sorry so many questions but all helpful to know before anyone offers advice. Jim

~Around the 1st week of Dec.
~There wasnt much to the roots. Id say i got 80% of them. ~yes to all of question 3 except i did not bare root them. ~2 trees to each "pot". they are dollar store window flower boxes i got from the lady next door. they are on my front porch. it is not heated, well ventilated (screened) and gets sun all day long. ~yes pictures 2 & 3 are the same tree. The more we all ask, the more we all know. |

I would leave them be for the next 14 months, and see how they do. If they survive the move you can be ready next winter to move them a year from March into individual pots. Be careful with the watering this summer and do not let them get sunburned.
