Can anyone help me identify my new bonsai?

Hello!

I was just given this bonsai as a Christmas present. Can anyone help me identify it? After searching around a bit I'm guessing it is a cyprus, but I'm a bit in the dark.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum, A.B.!

From your pictures, I'd say you're probably right: a cypress, or a juniper. (They're in the same family.)

welcome

From the photo your tree looks like a dwarf Alberta spruce.

I'm leaning towards the dwarf Alberta also. You could try a search for picea glauca 'conica' and see if the photos match.

If not, you may even have a Pacific Yew called: Taxus brevifolia.

Its very hard for us to tell from the pics without a close up of the foliage.

Cheers,

Arty

Hey AP, Welcome to the site.

I'd agree with the Dwarf Alberta Spruce diagnosis. Where are you keeping this tree? It needs to be outside if it is to stand a chance of survival. If I were you, I'd think about putting it into a bigger pot to encrourage new growth, and then you can sort out the canopy and take out all the dead needles etc.
