Bonsai Newbie!

Hello all,

Im posting here for some insight and a direction to take for my first bonsai tree. I live in Washington State and the rainy side of the mountains! I really wanna grow a cedar bonsai tree but really have no clue where to get started.

Ive been interested for a few years just never got around to starting one, so any help would be awsome.

This is kinda what i wanna grow.

Thanks,
Eric

Cool

I would Recommend either grafting a branch off a tree or simply buying a starter tree...
there are plenty of sites that sell starters for bonsai beginners
Hope this helps!

First thing I would suggest is that you spend some time doing some research so that you know what you are getting into. There are any number of books and articles online. Owning bonsai is a commitment to a living thing so before anything you should know a little about what your getting into first.
After that It won't be very difficult to create something like in your photo.
Do not start with anything called a bonsai starter kit! Usually these are either tiny plants or seeds with a cheap pot. You'll probably want to start with a tree in a 15 gallon sized can and cut it down from there. But first do your homework, for the sake of the tree and yourself as well.

I agree with bonsaibp. Do your research FIRST. You will save a lot of frustration. Your local public library likely has at least a few books--check them out to find out what this is all about, how to care for a tree, and how to create one. One thing this hobby will teach you if you don't already have it is patience.
