Growing from Seeds Q's???
I am a beginner to Bonsai, and recently bought some seeds from an online merchant. I got a pack of Dragon’s Blood seeds and Japanese White Birch seed. I realize that growing a Bonsai from seeds is not recommended for beginners but I figured I would try anyway. The question I have is since the Dragon’s Blood tree is normally a warm climate tree would the seeds have to go through the same stratification process as the Birch. Also what is the proper stratification process for the Birch and Dragon’s Blood if it needs to be stratified?
Thank You in advance |

Hi SkiHa and welcome to the site.
In all of these years I've never attempted to grow from seeds but I know others here who have. I'm sure someone will jump in to give you the information that you're looking for. ~Phil~

I figured the Dragon's Blood was not a usual bonsai type, but I was watching the T.V. show "LIFE" on the discovery channel, and I thought it was a cool looking tree. I've read online that some people have had some success growing indoors. I got a small greenhouse and mixed 2 quarts of bonsai soil with a couple handfuls of sphagnum peat moss and am regulating the temp in between 70 and 85 degrees F. Half of the seed I tried a scarification process and the other half, I put into a cup lined with sandpaper and shook them for about ten minutes. After all that I soaked them for 24 hours in room temp water then surface planted the seeds.
Do you guys think that is the best way to go with a thick, larger succulent seed like the Dragon’s Blood Tree seed, (Dracaena Draco)? |

Not familiar with Dragons Blood tree, but form what I can see it comes from arid warm regions and therefor there would be no need to stratify the seeds.
Here is an article, albeit a bare bone one, on how to grow them from seed. Wish I could be of more help. ~Phil~
