I've looked into the real deal of what one does to prepare suiseki for exhibition and easily saw that I would not live that long!
So as a compromise, I discovered a wax that can be put on a stone ( and easily removed) that holds the colors just like when i found the rocks underwater in a local stream. Pure stoners will be horrified, but I find the method to fill my need. I apply the wax by hand, then brush in with toothbrush, then give it a sheen with a shoe brush.
So you don't have to ask, the taki-ishi (waterfall stone) was found in British columbia , Canada
