It's funny, Matt: we Yanks don't think of Britain as anything other than cool and damp -- but like every stereotype, it can mislead. A few years ago, my wife took two of the the girls and flew off for a shoestring vacation in Scotland for 3 weeks, in large measure to get away from our summer heat for a bit. But that was 2003 -- they arrived just in time for Europe's worst heat wave in however-long-it-had-been! Talk about irony!

Here in the lower Great Lakes area our weather has been fairly typical, which is to say, up and down. Last week temperatures were running in the upper 80's-lower 90's F (30-32 C, thereabouts.) In the last two days we've had highs only around 70 F, and loved the relief! Today's high is supposed to be 80 F.

Rain comes every few days. In between, I have to use city water. I fill a large plastic tub and let it sit for a couple of days, in the hope that chlorine will dissipate and other chemicals will (maybe) settle out some. Don't know if it works -- any comments?
