I think it depends on what sort of tree's you have, also the size of the humidity tray. I personally use as large a tray that will fit on my windowsills, those little ones are a waste of time.
This is a pic of my last one i set up, its almost 4ft long X 16 inch wide, i also mist as well but when i do, about 20mins. later, you would not know i had done it, so, if you need a lot of humidity for Ficus use both. Cheers.
