When you say Firethorn I'm assuming you're refering to Pyracantha?
The Tree and Shrub Expert by Dr D.G Hessayon suggests on page 46: "Propagation: Sow seed under glass in spring or plant cuttings in a cold frame in summer"
Not knowing your climate, My advice would be wait for someone a little closer to home chime in as well, but if you were in the same climate as me I'd say go for it.
